Police: Rally finishes peacefully
Officers had warned public of possible violence.

SOUTH BEND -- A biker rally that police worried might turn violent last weekend reportedly ended Sunday afternoon without problems.

The ABATE motorcycle club hosted the annual fundraiser Friday through Sunday at the Crumstown Conservation Club on Crumstown Highway.

Police from multiple agencies cautioned the public last week that two rival motorcycle groups might attend the fundraiser and that altercations might ensue stemming from an earlier confrontation.

In April, more than 30 police cars from South Bend, St. Joseph County and Mishawaka responded to the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds to break up a melee between bikers.

But police on Monday said the weekend fundraiser came and went peacefully, likely because of extra police presence in the area. Along with local officers, officials from the FBI; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the U.S. Marshal's office were standing by.

'Sneak & peek' video led to coke bust

Talk about a candid camera.

Cops used several unique warrants to bust suspected drug dealers during Project Villagio, which targeted three members of the Zig Zag Crew and a Maples-area apartment that was a "lair for their ongoing cocaine operation," court was told this week.

Cops were granted a pair of "sneak and peek" warrants, formally known as covert entry warrants, to videotape and photograph inside the Leila Avenue suite during the middle of the night.

Tapes of those warrants were shown as evidence in court this week at a bail hearing for Hells Angels hangaround Harold Amos, who's been charged with cocaine trafficking and possessing prohibited weapons.

Filmed by a pair of officers, the video tour of the apartment revealed the usual cocaine trafficking equipment -- including scales and moulds -- but also unveiled a hydraulic press, said Crown attorney Chris Mainella.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Police want to find a man who may be impersonating an officer and pulling people over.

Investigators say he pulled two motorcyclists over at Michigan Street and Semoran Boulevard on Monday.

They said the man had a large spotlight, a dark uniform, and an oval badge. They told police he was driving an unmarked white Chevy Tahoe and blared an air horn. The SUV also had flashing white lights in the grill and on the windshield visor.

The man then allegedly called the motorcycle riders to his vehicle and told them he had to decide how many tickets to write them, and that he was calling for back-up.

Then he drove off, and the bikers called the real police.

Orlando Police said real officers would never sit in their vehicles and ask drivers to come to them on traffic stops.

Man faces court over bikie brawl at kickboxing comp

A 34-year-old New South Wales man has appeared in a Gold Coast court charged over his alleged involvement in a brawlbetween two rival motorcycle clubs on the tourist strip in March.

Troy McKever Stewart was arrested in Sydney last week and charged over the incident in which five people were either shot or stabbed at a kickboxing tournament at Ashmore.

He's facing five charges including attempted murder, wounding, and discharging a weapon and was remanded in custody to face a committal hearing in August.

There was no application for bail.

Thirteen Harley-riding buddies are planning a ride to the Michigan town today -- the day of triple-sixes. It's 6-6-6, the sixth day of the sixth month in the sixth year of the millennium. Organizer Joe Dowd says when he saw what the date was going to be, he knew he had to ride to Hell. He notes the next 6-6-6 won't come for another hundred years. But Dowd says there's nothing Satanic about their ride, it's just a chance to see friends and some pretty back roads.

Bikers preach important safety lesson

The students sat in their gold and green chairs, listening attentively as the man before them spoke. Dressed in a leather vest and armed with a commanding presence, he talked to them with purpose, leaving them with a story they will never forget.

Last Thursday, driver's education students sat in the high school auditorium and watched "Share the Road," a program put on by A.B.A.T.E. or A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education. Speaking at the program were Harley riders, Wayne Wierson and Phyllis and Gary Hanson.

Aimed toward educating students in driver's education programs across the state, the program teaches students motorcycle awareness when driving.

Stating that a heavy motorcycle only weighs about 800 pounds, Wierson told students that it is their responsibility to look out for motorcycles, as they have no protection except the clothes on their backs between them and the pavement.

He also demonstrated how easy it is not to see a motorcycle by showing them just how many places one can be without a car seeing it.

Gaining a few laughs from the students while still keeping the tone serious, Wierson showed them a picture of a tough-looking biker and asked a question.

"Why do you think a biker that fears no man is afraid of a soccer mom?" asked Wierson. "Because they're driving minivans with screaming children."

The Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public's help in finding a mystery sport utility vehicle, nearly two months after the slaying of eight Bandidos bikers.

As part of their investigation, the OPP have been canvassing the St. Thomas area where the bodies were discovered, said Const. Michelle Scott.

In doing so, they learned from local residents of an unrecognized mid- to late-90s red SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy, which was seen in the Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich a week before and after the massacre, said Scott.

"This is a normal part of the investigation," she added.

"In any investigation, you have things that you are following."

WINNIPEG -- Street gangsters in Winnipeg come in all shapes and sizes -- from Native teens in disadvantaged neighbourhoods to white bikers born and bred in the suburbs.

But despite their differences, two things bind them: Drugs and violence.

Manitoba's gangsters and organized crime members -- last estimated at more than 1,500 -- are lured to the criminal underworld for reasons including a sense of belonging, protection and status.

But it's the money made from selling gang-controlled drugs that keeps them coming.

It's impossible to estimate the money sales of cocaine, meth, marijuana and less common drugs put into pockets of Winnipeg gangsters, though police have said the city's cocaine trade alone is worth more than $5 million a month.

A large portion of that trade can be traced to the city's two biggest outlaw motorcycle clubs: The Hells Angels and the Bandidos.

"I've heard them referred to as motorcycle enthusiasts and certainly they are that and more," Sgt. Rob Harding, a supervisor in the Winnipeg police organized crime unit, told Sun Media last fall.

The Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding a red sport utility vehicle, as they continue to investigate the April 8 murders of eight members of the Bandidos motorcycle gang.

The mid- to late-90s SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy, was in the Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich in the last week of March and first week of April, OPP said.

On April 8, a St. Thomas-area resident stumbled upon three cars and a tow truck while on an early morning walk.

The bodies of eight Toronto-area men, members and associates of the Bandidos motorcycle gang, were found. The discovery captured the world’s attention as the worst single-incident mass murder in modern Ontario history.

BIRMINGHAM -- Just north of downtown, on streets with little traffic and light, young men are getting their kicks on motorcycles.

They stand on their seats, pop wheelies and ride on their front tires. After about 20 minutes, they bolt to evade the uniformed men and women they love to hate.

Their world is extreme biking, an up-and-coming daredevil sport that might make Evel Knievel proud but makes motorists and police shudder.

Across the state, more and more teens and twentysomethings are hopping on sport motorcycles and learning tricks once relegated to skateboards, bicycles and surfboards.

They can be seen zipping through traffic on Interstate 85 between Montgomery and Auburn or popping wheelies on Interstate 65 near Clanton.

"The sports bike scene here is blowing up," said John Moore of Close Call Riderz, a Birmingham-based extreme biking club made up mostly of college students and younger professionals.

This time of year, motorcyclists know better than anybody the sting - and nasty flavor - of smashing through love bugs.

BROOKSVILLE - If you think love bugs are a menace to your car, try riding a motorcycle. Without a windshield. Without a helmet.
That's what "Malicious" Mike Clements was doing the other day as he roared through Land O'Lakes on his purple Harley-Davidson. Somewhere along U.S. 41, the president of Hernando's Warlocks Motorcycle Club ran into a cloud of love bugs and was blinded by their guts smashing against his glasses.

"I'd like to find whoever invented these bugs and beat him to death," Clements said. "They serve no purpose in nature."

Nothing keeps him from riding - not hurricanes, not lightning and certainly not copulating insects - but Clements finds these critters, which stick to car windshields, biker helmets and human flesh, to be a real pain in the ... face.

He is not alone.

It's love bug season again and in this four-wheel world that's time for car drivers to complain about the mess on their vehicles and the damage to their paint jobs.

Vermont Police Under Review For Pillowcase Suffocation
Police in Rutland are under fire Wednesday.

They're accused of pulling a pillowcase over the head of a man last week who died an hour after being taken into custody.

"I'm just in shock, I can't believe they would do something like that to him," said Denise Martelle, who is still trying to come to terms with the death of her boyfriend of five years, Bob Reid. "He'd still be here if it wasn't for what happened."

On Friday evening, Reid broke a window on the door leading to his apartment because he forgot his keys.

Witnesses called police, and at the same time, Reid went upstairs and called 911 and hung up.

Illinois Trooper May Get To Keep Found $445,000
May 31--COLLINSVILLE -- An Illinois State Police trooper found $445,000 in cash in a tractor-trailer in early May, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Trooper Nate McVickers pulled over the driver of the truck May 1 on an interstate near Collinsville and discovered the cash stashed in a compartment for one of the truck's stereo speakers. Two screws were missing from the speaker cover.

The driver, Antonio Villanueva of Dallas, gave permission to search the truck. Villanueva's age could not be determined Tuesday.

A drug-sniffing police dog was brought in, and it alerted on the duct-taped bundles of cash. Police suspect the money was intended for buying drugs or was the proceeds of a drug sale.
