A HIGH-ranking Finks member will return to court later this month after an alleged Hunter service station brawl.

Police were called to Thomas Street at Wallsend about 8pm on Friday December 9 amid reports a group of men were fighting, including one armed with a baseball bat.

Paramedics treated a 26-year-old at the scene, eventually taking him and another man, 36, to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Authorities searched the area for other men but were unable to locate anyone else at the time.

Gangs Squad detectives from Strike Force Raptor and Newcastle police began an investigation.

On Wednesday they arrested a 32-year-old man at Newcastle police station.

Police described the man as a high-ranking member of the Finks outlaw motorcycle gang’s Newcastle chapter.

He was charged with affray, use offensive weapon with intent to commit serious indictable offence and custody of offensive implement in a public place.

The man was formally refused bail in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday. He will re-appear on January 23.

Strike Force Raptor was established in 2009. The Newcastle Herald reported on Wednesday the Hunter-based unit set up in December would ramp up its approach in the next six weeks.
